The future of the Greek pharmacy – Activity 7

BRAIN STORM!!!!!

let’s  highlight the most common and relevant words on the proposed changes for pharmacies, according to the input from this scenario

.the pharmacies are characterized by both dimensions,

the economic and the social one. We have pharmacists, people and health in one side and in the other side we have money and law/rules. Currently the Greek pharmacies are closer to the first dimension while the proposed changes will lead towards the second

Due to the ongoing Greek crisis, the Greek pharmacy is on crisi too!!!!!!

Greece has become the experiment lab in Europe. While European legislation and the European court of law dictate that only pharmacists have the right to open pharmacies, the Greek government tries to give the right to huge corporations to open pharmacies in Greece. They don’t pay the their huge debts to the pharmacies, pushing pharmacists to close their pharmacies because they don’t have the money to stay in business. At the same time they try to open the operation hours pushing small one person operated  pharmacies to extinction. This is will not open the way for new pharmacists, as people hopes. Instead only the upcoming super-pharmacies will be able to stay alive and will divide the market between them. We already witnessed this phenomenon in Sweden and Turkey and now it’s time for Greece to pay the toll

Globalwarming – Activity 3

Learning tasks: Find an article about recent opinion, as possible scientifically correct, in global warming, political choices and reaction.
Tools/resources: Entire web, particularly scientific sites and wikipedia.

Duration: 30 minutes

In this article are exposed the last argumentations about global warming and the politic choice to solve the problem.

As you can see in this picture it’s important to highlight some issues: one is the importance of greenhouse gases to keep the earth surface temperature habitable, indeed many people think that the greenhouse gases are harmful or unfavorable. Another noteworthy aspect – often overlooked, as you can see in the most frequently used words,  is the feedback mechanism: the understanding of this complex gear is fundamental to acquire the correct point of view and put in a position to debate correctly about the problem.

Globalwarming – Activity2

Learning tasks: Find a brief documentary (max 15 minutes) about global warming and another that expose a different point of view on the same argumentation.

Tools/resources: Youtube

Duration: 30 minutes

Watch the following video that show a great and renowned brief documentary by Al Gore.

In this second video are highlighted some of Al Gore’s mistakes (or misunderstandings).

Related article or discussion

Al Gore underline the importance of the correlation between the increase of earth temperature surface and carbon dioxide’s atmospheric level: he wants to show how the increasing of carbon dioxide’s level causes the increasing of earth temperature surface.
In the second video, instead, this inference is questioned: some scientists said that this two variables are correlated but there isn’t a direct mechanism cause and effect.

Globalwarming – Activity1

Learning tasks: Find an animation (e.g. flash) that show how the greenhouse gases cause the global warming

Tools/resources: Search engine with option “swf file”

Duration: 30 min

Global warming interactive video

Comment on video: This animation shows in a very simplified way how are produced greenhouse gases. It’s important to recognize how does it work because the political and economic choices are based also on public knowledge. More and more are needed, due to the globalization, integrations between education – knowledge – political choices . We can make many examples: from the documentary about global warming made of Al Gore to the university courses on line (for example Physics for Future Presidents by Richard A. Muller at Berkeley). It’s also important to have different debates and opinions: for each example we can find a counter example that shows another point of view…

In wiki section of oercommons project there are some examples of a (utopian) project based on a games that stimulates reflections about a more sustainable world.

GOVERMENT OWES TO GREEK PHARMACY !!

This is an article from the Pharmacists blog (farmakopoioi.blogspot). It talks about the fact that “OPAD” a public insurance agency for people working for the government, owes 8-10 months of payments to the pharmacists which have to cover 75-90% of the drugs, since they have to pay their suppliers several months before they get paid. If you also consider the fact that they have already prepaid the amount of the value added tax which accounts to these unpaid drugs, you can clearly understand why this pushes smaller pharmacies to get loans. The article speaks about the high cost drugs which according to law have to be paid to the pharmacies within 45 days, while they haven’t been paid for over 6 months. The pharmacies can buy these drugs only directly by the pharmaceutical companies which require a payment in advance. It’s a pity that the government doesn’t obey it’s own laws.

Poster ‘ Environmentalism- political necessity or choice of an individual?’ presents definition of Environmentalism given by Britannica Encyclopedia, which says that it is a movement seeking to protect the Life on Earth, by both- individual and institutionalised forms of the action. This statement is supported by quotation of M. Gandhi’s words and argued by shot of statistical data.

The need of taking care about nature illustrate pictures and ‘steps’ with tips what to do to improve the quality of surrounding us space.

Poster provides furthermore a link to the website with listed 100 ideas ‘how to save the environment.’

Music background in the poster forms composition ‘Save this town,’ written by Blue Foundation, which’s lyrics perfectly reflect the idea of undertaking a common effort;

‘I know that we can’t save this town alone,

So this is why I say:

Come on and raise your voice

And spread those words around: COME ON SAVE IT.’

SCIENTIFIC  PHARMACY NOT COMMERCIAL STORES!!!

This picture shows a pharmacy in Tokyo Japan. When pharmacies are turned into simple commercial stores the main goal is to making profit and loose the scientific character and the personalised approach that they currently have. When a merchant and not a pharmacist runs a pharmacy, then he is not concerned with which medicine will have the better effect but which will give the better profit. This is not promising for the health of the people.
