BACK TO MAIN Learning tasks: Find an article about recent opinion, as possible scientifically correct, in global warming, political choices and reaction. Duration: 30 minutes In this article are exposed the last argumentations about global warming and the politic choice to solve the problem. As you can see in this picture it’s important to highlight some issues: one is the importance of greenhouse gases to keep the earth surface temperature habitable, indeed many people think that the greenhouse gases are harmful or unfavorable. Another noteworthy aspect – often overlooked, as you can see in the most frequently used words, is the feedback mechanism: the understanding of this complex gear is fundamental to acquire the correct point of view and put in a position to debate correctly about the problem.

In this second video are highlighted some of Al Gore’s mistakes (or misunderstandings). Related article or discussion Al Gore underline the importance of the correlation between the increase of earth temperature surface and carbon dioxide’s atmospheric level: he wants to show how the increasing of carbon dioxide’s level causes the increasing of earth temperature surface.

Comment on video: This animation shows in a very simplified way how are produced greenhouse gases. It’s important to recognize how does it work because the political and economic choices are based also on public knowledge. More and more are needed, due to the globalization, integrations between education – knowledge – political choices . We can make many examples: from the documentary about global warming made of Al Gore to the university courses on line (for example Physics for Future Presidents by Richard A. Muller at Berkeley). It’s also important to have different debates and opinions: for each example we can find a counter example that shows another point of view… In wiki section of oercommons project there are some examples of a (utopian) project based on a games that stimulates reflections about a more sustainable world. Comments Poster ‘ Environmentalism- political necessity or choice of an individual?’ presents definition of Environmentalism given by Britannica Encyclopedia, which says that it is a movement seeking to protect the Life on Earth, by both- individual and institutionalised forms of the action. This statement is supported by quotation of M. Gandhi’s words and argued by shot of statistical data. The need of taking care about nature illustrate pictures and ‘steps’ with tips what to do to improve the quality of surrounding us space. Poster provides furthermore a link to the website with listed 100 ideas ‘how to save the environment.’ Music background in the poster forms composition ‘Save this town,’ written by Blue Foundation, which’s lyrics perfectly reflect the idea of undertaking a common effort; ‘I know that we can’t save this town alone, So this is why I say: Come on and raise your voice And spread those words around: COME ON SAVE IT.’
