The video discusses the issue of inequality in the participation in higher education. Many EU researchers are starting to take an interest in whether studying in the EU is dependent on the wealth of the students. According to the reporter, experts say that there are still obstacles that hinder the equality of opportunity in terms of accessing higher education in Europe. Prof.dr. Luc Soete points out that there is a great discrepancy between some students: EU students pay 2000 euros, international students 20.000 euros for the same course. He concludes that this is unfair and makes no sense. In my opinion, although higher fees for international students might create less opportunities for them to study in Europe, it would be impractical and impossible for them to pay the same fees as European students. It means that the European Union would have to fund or finance the costs of international students, from common funds. Obviously, this cannot happen, because the students will most likely return home after their studies, so the EU would, in essence, be paying for their education and then gaining nothing from it.
